History
The original Garden Fresh Market opened in 1980 on a 1000 square
foot lot at 4909 Dempster Street, in Skokie, Illinois. Adi Mor,
the founder of Garden Fresh Market, wanted to create a shopping
experience that would provide customers with quality foods that
are fresh and at a great value. To make his dream a reality, Adi
would begin each working day at 2 o’clock in the morning to
purchase fresh produce at Chicago's renowned South Water Market
and bringing it directly to the store. Adi’s promise to his
customers has become Garden Fresh Market’s philosophy and long
standing tradition: quality and value.
In 1985, Garden Fresh opened its second store located at 5701 W.
Belmont Avenue, in Chicago, Illinois. The 10,000 square foot
store generated weekly sales of $6,000 in its first year. By
recognizing the need to offer fresh produce and to customize the
store to meet the needs of the neighborhood, Adi was able to
increase the store’s sales fivefold during its second year.
In 1993 Adi purchased a 60,000 square foot shopping center where
Garden Fresh Market opened yet another store at 1786 Hintz Road
in Wheeling, Illinois. This was Adi’s first real venture into a
full-line grocery store.
In 2000, Adi purchased another store location at 340 Town Line
Road in Mundelein, Illinois. The 30,000 square foot modernly
designed Garden Fresh Market store opened with great success
where its customer base continues to grow.
In 2004, recognizing the need to expand and cater to other
communities, Garden Fresh Market opened another store at 275
Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook, Illinois. The store opened with
rave reviews and boasts to be one of the most popular locations.
More departments were added allowing for its customers to
continue enjoying Garden Fresh quality at the great Garden Fresh
value.
In 2006, Garden Fresh opened its next fully-renovated store in
the community of Mt. Prospect at 1145 Mt. Prospect Plaza, Mt.
Prospect, Illinois. From its artistic décor to the attractive
prices, this store has already proved itself to be a very
welcomed addition to that community.
Most recently, Garden Fresh Markets has taken on its largest
venture ever. As a party to the recent purchase of the formerly
known Cub foods stores, Garden Fresh Market has purchased the
following grocery store locations: Arlington Heights, Mundelein
and Crystal Lake, and will be operating the lease at its Round
Lake Beach store.
On a 60,000+ square feet property, the Garden Fresh Market at
600 East Rand Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois opened its doors
on December 20, 2006. In this large store setting, there are
plans to open a mini-mall to offer its customers other services
that will make their shopping experience more time saving,
effective and most of all enjoyable.
On January 24, 2007, Garden Fresh Market opened at 965 East
Rollins Road, Round Lake Beach, Illinois 60073 to service
another growing community of northern Illinois. The most common
question asked on the opening day was, “why didn’t you come here
sooner?”
Garden Fresh Market’s current store in Mundelein has moved to
its new home address at 400 East Town Line Road Mundelein, IL
60060 on February 21, 2006, with an expanded location that will
continue to faithfully serve the Mundelein community, as always,
since 2000.
Finally, plans to open the Garden Fresh Market at 5625 Northwest
Highway 14, Crystal Lake, IL 60014, are already in motion with
an expected opening date in early June, 2007!
Each time a new Garden Fresh location has opened, state of the
art equipment has been purchased, specialty departments have
been added, and technology has been increased. Yet, throughout
the years, Adi’s guiding principle has remained the same: Give
customers the quality foods that they like, offer them fresh,
and at a great value.
